If you’re in need of a fantastic gift idea, I have one for you.
For my dad’s 60th birthday my sisters and I gave him “60 years of memories”. We reached out months ago to everyone we could think of that has been part of my dad’s life - siblings, in-laws, college friends, business partners, etc. - and asked them to send us their favorite memory of him. The responses flooded in and were amazing. We put each note in a navy envelope and then numbered the envelopes 1-60. We gave them all to him on Sunday, Father’s Day, which was the day before his birthday. It took him about an hour and a half to read them all, but his reactions were worth it. He teared up for a few, laughed [okay, cackled] at many more. He’s not a very emotive guy, but my mom told us that he reread them all again back at home. There were notes from people he talks to every day and those he hadn’t talked to in years.
As he opened each envelope, my sisters put the letters into a leather memory book so he can easily read through them whenever he wants.
